The person called claiming to be my electric company dating they were my electric companies payment system and they were switching over to a new system and they needed to synchronize my new account with my old account by me initiating a payment to release the funds for the payment that I made towards my electric bill in January into their new account system. I was told by initiating this payment through PayPal it would generate some kind of a release of funds code that I would be given to then give back to this person. I was on the phone with them for over 100 minutes. At one point I had my parents call me so that I could conference call with them with this person claiming to be my electric company on the phone to help me navigate the situation. I ended up initiating a payment through PayPal. And as soon as that happened we realized it was a scam. We hung up with the person that contacted me on the phone. I called my bank right away and they shut the security level down on my bank account so that payments couldn't come out of that account could it only go in. I tried contacting PayPal but they informed me that because of how the payment was initiated they could not help me with the liability for the payment. Which I disagree with because I didn't even have any money in my PayPal account to begin with so why did PayPal initiate a payment when they knew on their end that there was no funds in my account. I'm working with my bank's fraud department to resolve the PayPal and of this issue.
