We received a request for a quote from a potential overseas client two weeks ago. Around the same time, the CEO's email was hacked and several emails were sent to our clients with false 'dropbox' links. A week after we handled that situation me and another coworker received emails impersonating our CEO requesting immediate ACH payments to a new overseas vendor. This week, still not seeing any connection between all of these, we sent a deposit invoice for the potential client who contacted us two weeks ago. By the end of the week we received a fraudulent cashier check for $3000 over the invoice, supposedly from a different institution with a name we didn't recognize. The potential client had sent us a tracking number for the deposit check he had mailed. We checked and the tracking matched the fraudulent cashier check. We then double checked the mail tracking origination location, the location we got reported for the first hacking sign on of the CEOs email and the micro-printed zip code on the package. They all tie back to North Carolina.

We have reported the fraud to the real company that was impersonated as the client. We contacted the bank that the alleged cashier check was supposed to have come from. We contacted the company listed as the return sender on the package. We've also contacted the postal inspectors.
