Type of a scam Phishing
Letter stated that a distant relative, "...had died in an accident on Highway 401 by Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Seven years ago..." and that no one had yet claimed the benefits from a life insurance policy.
The scammer asks to form a partnership with the victim and file paperwork to claim the benefit, donate 10% to charity (probably a false account or entity), and split the remaining 90%. Adorable.
Why would the beneficiary want to just split the policy payout with some nameless lawyer who wants to do this in a, "...highly professional and confidential manner..."?
The letter asks the potential victim to, "...provide a reachable contact number, for faster communication."
