Scammed into paying an app fee

Went on Rent.com and found a good place. Sent the "contact me" form, then was promptly contacted about 20-30 minutes later by a man with an accent claiming his name was Mike. He had also sent an email to me under the address [email protected]

It sounded too good to be true in many ways (he seemed flexible on deposit, on move in dates etc., and made it sound like a great deal), but I went to the property's address to check it out, and I was keen to take the property off the market. Followed the link to the YouTube video walk thru of the property (uploaded by Drake 4 years ago) and then clicked on the application link. Paid the non-refundable fee of $89 and then googled the details listed above to find that he was part of a scam.

Pasco county scammer

I sent a message through apartments.com ... To a guy with a supposed rental property in bayonet point, I was suspicious from the start because he called me ten mins later, if that... I barely said anything, and he had already lowered the rent, and said if my finances are strong enough there's no deposit... The same guy has multiple listings throughout Pasco county, all very cheap considering the market status. He sent me a text and email with a link to a very generic online app, that mostly talks about how non refundable the app fee is if you are denied...and a link to a four year old YouTube video posted by a user names "Drake on Digital" of a very shoddy walkthrough of the property pictured. He said his name is Mike, but he definitely sounded Indian or Pakistani.
