A malicious ad popped up on a website I was browsing and I must have accidentally clicked on it. Then a big message came across my screen that said my computer was infected and locked and I needed to call Microsoft to fix it. I called the #, thinking it was Microsoft. The person claimed to be from Microsoft, said I was in trouble because I had searched child porn, and that my bank account was locked because of a federal investigation. They then connected me with someone who claimed to be from Capital One, who claimed my account was compromised and money had been stolen. They said I had to wire money to them to fund the balance that was missing. They instructed me to go to a bitcoin ATM and wire cash to two separate bitcoin addresses. I had multiple phone convos with them on multiple phone #s, one with 336 area code and one with 713 area code. They facilitated the bitcoin ATM transaction via a QR code. They also installed a remote viewing application on my computer when I was first on the phone with them. Once I realized what happened, they continued to call me to try to initiate additional transactions. I have filed a complaint with IC3.gov but am out $50,000. If there is any help you can provide with investigating or with getting the money back, please let me know.
