Microsoft support (fake) Reports & Reviews (1)

I was on my laptop (an HP pavilion) and virus popped up called "Zeus". The virus spoke out of my speakers and urged me to call a number on the screen or else my computer would crash. It also started not to restart my computer or else it would crash. Panicked, I called the number who claimed to be Microsoft support. The voice on the other line, a man with an Indian accent, had me read what was on the screen and then instructed me to run a program called "support.me". This program would not load on my computer, perhaps due to a slow wifi connection from my home, so the man instructed me to download a different program called "anydesk". While we waited for these programs to download, he asked me whether I was a student or a worker, and whether I had work that day. He also asked whether I was using a laptop vs. desktop, public vs. private wifi and how many devices used my wifi. My computer then alerted me that "anydesk" was a dangerous program but the man on the line said that that was just the virus talking. This program would not load either so he had me try to load "support.me" via Google Chrome by pressing the shift key while opening Chrome. I gave him remote access to my computer and he showed me a wikipedia page about the "Zeus" virus talking about how dangerous the virus is, and how it can hide itself within the computer. He ran a "scan" on my computer and at the end the scan report started that the computer was in critical damage and needed a firewall to be installed. He urged me to download the firewall, which he could do and then I would have to send in a cheque for $150 (if I only want it on my own computer) or $500 (if I want it to protect all devices using the wifi router). I declined to both and stated if I changed my mind I would call them back. He still tried to persuade me into downloading the firewall but I repeatedly declined, and then he said he was going to hang up. I have since then changed my passwords (using a different computer) and have restored my laptop back to its factory settings.
