Microsoft Defender / Impostor Reports & Reviews (1)

I was on my computer doing a search on Mapquest. Tried to close down an add. My computer froze up. The message on the bottom of the screen told me to call Microsoft Defender @ 855-630-4280. I hung up fearing it was a scam. I received a call back within a minute from 315-500-0209 (New York number per my cell phone record) from John Morris. His direct number is 805-323-8890 ext 011. He had an accent and his English was good as were his tech support instructions. Very clear and easy to follow. John claimed my computer system was hacked & had me load UltraViewer on my laptop so he could provide remote tech support. Which I did. He showed me a list of all the - phone, financials, and porn sites - that were on my system, none of which I saw on my g-mail account. John then had me access my credit cards and bank accounts to see if there were any unusual charges. There were none. John claimed he could not see my account names or account numbers. John then started to run a program to clean-up my system from all the hackers. He said this could take hours on some computers. The clean-up program started while I was still on hold on my phone. After about 10 minutes the progress on the green bar stopped making progress. I tried to hang-up the phone, John came back on the line immediately and wanted to get the phone number for my bank. I said no, thought this was a scam, leaving me hanging on hold while the software allegedly cleaned up the hacker files was similar to the car dealer going into the back room to talk with his boss about the price he would sell the car for while the customer waits and waits and waits. It was at this point that John, who had been very polite up to this point changed his tone. John started to get testy, said that I called him, that I was being unreasonable, and I definitely knew this was a scam. Be forewarned. This phone call lasted 1 hour and 12 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 10:42 a.m. MDT.
