DO NOT USE….. On 10/17/2019, I needed to set up a new HP printer. When I googled “HP Support” one of the first links to click said “HP Support Assist.” This link brought me to a website with an HP Logo and a phone number to call. Once I called a man named John Battam claimed to be associated with HP Support and he was going to help me install my printer. Once he installed the drivers, he told me that my network was damaging the driver he just installed so he would help me fix this issue. Which I thought was different because why would an HP technician help me with a Windows problem. He insisted on helping me install this Windows Security program. It would be $179.99 to get a one-year plan for this Windows Security. I agreed, and let him proceed to install this security on my computer. He then later asked for a payment, which I was willing to pay because he did work onto my computer and I would pay him for his service. But then it all took a turn from there. He then asked me where I banked at – which I answered in an uneasy tone. He assured me my phone call was recorded and he would NEVER share this information. HE pulled up my online banking website and asked me to login to proceed with payment. I stupidly typed my login information and before it could load, I exited the webpage – to which he responded “Oh ma’am it was about to load, why did you do that?” I told him I would feel more comfortable paying via check as soon as I receive an invoice for his services. He then pulled my email up and composed a new email for me, while on the phone asked me to fill out a survey of his service. (I wanted to call him out for his ethics at this time but filled out the survey as he asked). On 10/18/2019, his supervisor David gave me a call and asked about their service. When I simply asked why he has his employees asking for a customer’s banking information while on a remote desktop, he told me that using a credit card is NOT secure and this day in age, it is more safe to just login into my online banking and directly take it from my account!!! WHO DOES THIS??? We run a small business and not ONCE have I ever been asked to login into my online banking while the technician was sharing the screen. I mentioned I would report his ethics to the Better Business Bureau, at which point the phone call became chopping like he was “losing service.” I believed I was scammed and wanted to share my story in case others have had similar experiences. I would NOT trust this company and want “companies” like this shut down.
