Matt came to give estimate on fixing 3 decks after I contacted him on Craig's list. He then began suggesting other jobs he could do. As rain was in the forecast, I agreed to having him also do some bathroom fixture improvements. He was friendly, seemed like a nice man. He did hurry me into making a decision as my original plan had been to get other estimates, but he assured me he could do everything in a few weeks and his price was reasonable. He took a deposit for both jobs and I foolishly paid for wood and supplies over phone to Lowes. He did not deliver $1700.00 worth of supplies which is what I paid. I thought he would bring the rest next trip. Since he did begin job on porch (he replaced steps on 2 of the porches) while he waited for me to come home to give him the deposit. He never returned, but did answer the phone with a new excuse each time. It wasn't until the contract end date that he blocked my phone calls and now his website is down. Unfortunately, the police told me since he did start job, they could do nothing. He took a total of $1300 for which i did receive 2 new sets of stairs and an expensive pile of wood. I feel foolish, but don't want anyone else to be as trusting. After the incident, I did google and discover he was arrested last year for same, but had not begun the job so could be arrested. Guess he learned how to keep himself safe!
