The scammer, Megan Pattison, posted an ad on Facebook Marketplace for a puppy. They included their phone number on the ad and my sister texted them. They responded with the price. We made one payment of $285 via PayPal with a credit card. There was a second payment made of the same amount via MoneyGram with a debit card. They said we needed to make a second payment because the AKC (American Kennel Club) needed a mandatory one time refundable payment. This was to ensure the capability of the standard monetary care of the canine. The scammer said they would refund the first payment in cash at time of pickup. They gave a residential address for pickup. We showed up and an older gentleman opened the door. He said he didn't know anyone by the name Megan Pattison. He said someone had stopped by earlier in the day asking for a puppy as well. I called and texted Megan Pattison and never heard back. We spoke to her on the phone and sounded very kind and convincing. We didn't doubt for a second that this could be a scam.
