I applied for a remote job on indeed a couple weeks ago for Medical Services of America and a person named Nicole smith had texted me saying that the interview process would be done through an app called Telegram. She then said once the app was downloaded, I would be interviewed by the HR manager, Michelle Wallace. This seemed fine to me because I have been interviewed for a job through a message system before.I was given a code to text Michelle with and once it was sent, the interview began. She began to describe the position and asked me to introduce myself. She then gave me 3 sets of 5 questions, which I answered and she said that was all for that day and to come back at 8 a.m the next day. She ended up texting me at 5 a.m. saying I got a 94% on my interview questions and that I had got the job. She then asked me for my name, address, phone number, email, the picture of my state ID (front and back), and my social security number. Of course this felt odd to me and it gave me a weird feeling in my chest, but I thought it was mandatory in order to get the job I so desperately wanted. She then did a background check and told me to “ple[censored]d, I will be back with you shortly”. That took about 2 hours. Finally she comes back and says that there will be a confirmation code sent to my number shortly and that I need to look out for it. About 40 minutes go by and I haven’t received anything, but she blows it off like it wasn’t important. She then started to tell me that in order to work for the company, I would have to give them $500 so they can download certain software on a MacBook laptop, that would be mailed to me later on. She acted as if I had lots of money and kept saying “I believe this will not be an issue from your end correct?”. She tried to reassure me and said I will be reimbursed after my first payment. I ended up paying the $500 and had to wait for it to go through (this took one day). The next day she had told me to text her at 8 a.m. again, but she ended up texting me at 6 a.m. sharp. Then I received a message saying my payment went through and that the software had been installed, but there was an issue regarding time tracker software to calculate the hours I would work. She then demands another $500 and again days “I believe this will not be an issue from your end correct?” At this point I know I have been scammed so I ask if the company can help me out. She then asks me to hold on, letting another 2 hours pass. Once she returns she says that they are willing to have me pay $50 now and figure out the rest later. Michelle then asks if I have a target, cvs, Walgreens, or etc. nearby and asks me to buy Apple Card’s for the Mac book and to “Kindly make the purchase of these cards in denominations of $50”. At this point I refuse and ask for a refund. She ends up asking me to hold for about 1 hour and 35 minutes. I ask her if I will be refunded or not, and she tells me to hold and that she will be with me shortly. At this moment, I got tired of waiting large increments of time, so I called her twice, but it went straight to voicemail on the third call. She blocked me. But then she unblocks me to ask if my payment had gone through, and I already told her that it had. Then she asks me to ple[censored]d again. She hasn’t said anything for 5 hours now. All I have to say is be careful online. These people train themselves and write their lines down beforehand to make them seem legitimate.( There were times where I could tell she copied and pasted paragraphs). I wish I had listened to my gut.
