Call comes in from the scammer automated, “You are eligible to receive a free medical back brace”. You are asked to press “1” if interested, and “9” if you want to be placed on the Do Not Call list. Calls come in from different numbers that cannot be called back, it hasn’t been possible to block these numbers on a landline, and despite pressing “9” on various occasions, calls continue to come in.

Researching “medical grade brace calls” online resulted in information about this action as a form of Medicare fraud. They seem to target a certain demographic in hopes of “wearing them down” and possibly obtaining personal information with which to make Medicare claims, and to count on a low percentage of those claims being reviewed, so therefore getting payout.

They use caller ID spoofing, so no real phone number available to report. They say it's a medicare-related program for a back brace.
