1. Met Anthony Johnson (the name that was told to us) in Hastings property at 2pm to show the scope of work. This was our first meeting to get the quote for the repairs.
2. Later in the afternoon he (Anthony) gave us a quote of $7387 for all material and labour. Scope of work included repair of deck, fascia/sidings, eavestroughs, peak repair
3. He gave us 4 references (on our ask) out of which we were able to connect with ********* (*************) at the same day. Apparently later we found that Anthony and ********* are friends (per ******** and they jointly own another business)
4. We paid Masters Roofing & General contracting a deposit of $2500 and agreed that balance will be paid at the completion of work. Anthony agreed to start work on Oct 19, 2021. Refer screenshots of text messages.

1. Anthony texted me that he can’t start on Oct 19 as materials are delayed and will start on Oct 20, 2021

1. I visited the property at around 4 pm, there was no one working nor there was any material
2. I reached out to Anthony and he said he needs another $2000 to start the work, which was contrary to our initial agreement
3. I searched his GST # 311315170, as mentioned on the Quote, on the CRA website and it did not throw any results
4. Anthony offered me to refund my deposit if I do not pay him another $2000, which I accepted
5. He did not refund me deposit.

1. Anthony did appear at the work site at around 11 am but after couple hour of work asking me full balance of $4887 to continue
2. Moreover he was using not the right wood/material for the repairs which when I tried to discuss he demanded the money
3. He left the property in the afternoon

1. All this while I was taking him for the refund of my deposit or the material for which Anthony claimed to use my deposit for but I never got either. I also reached out to a lawyer for an email to Anthony, hoping to get my money back but nothing worked.
2. Anthony then threatened me to visit the property to undo the work which he did (not to mention just 2-3 hours of work) and damage my property as well
3. He made comments about the color of my skin and also abused me on text messages
4. I reached out to Northumberland county OPP for help, I spoke with a constable and he directed me to Small claims court but also spoke with Anthony. Constable did assure me that Anthony will not visit the property.

1. I posted my experience on Facebook group of the local community and I found that Anthony has even scammed some other people and OPP has his more details. His real name is different that what he claims
