Contacted me through a text and asked me to download Telegram. The whole conversation was sketchy.
I was asked couple questions none related to the position then was offered a job at the spot.
The guy “daniel white” told me that they will send me a check that i will need to spend on software and hardware to set up work from home office.
When asked about an offer letter and why am I not contacted using an email as it is the professional way employers contact employees he responded with my “supervisor” will contact me using email and send me HR document that i will be needing to fill sign and send back but before all that i will need to set up a home office from the money they will be sending. They also wanted me to fill out this sketchy direct deposit form.

I have contacted for an interview. and the recruiter had recommended I download and use an app I had some familiarity with, Telegram.
The interview that proceeded seemed like it was being run by a bot. With the response being somewhat generic. The redflag should have been raised when I was not given very many specifics and regarding the offer.

Once I provided my mailing address and phone # the contact chat log was deleted and blocked me.

I had an identical experience to the one described above. I actually let it get to the point where they actually sent me the check and after receiving it I called the bank that was printed on the Cashier's Check and confirmed with them that the routing number on the check was not a valid routing number, meaning the check itself is invalid.

After doing a little digging, my girlfriend and I found that the catch with these types of scams is that they get you to cash a false check, buy "equipment" from another of their companies, then when the bank looks into it and realizes that the check is false, you're on the hook for all the money you spent.

I've attached screen shots of my entire conversation with Mrs. Halsted.

Apologies, it seems that the screen shots uploaded out of order.

I applied for a Customer Service Advisor position with Maryland Legal Aid through www.Indeed.com on September 2, 2020. Since then, I have been in contact with various agents who say they are acting for Maryland Legal Aid, but there were many flags that indicated that I was being scammed, and that the people I was communicating with weren't connected with Maryland Legal Aid at all. I confirmed this with Maryland Legal Aid - some scammers were using Maryland Legal Aid as a front!

September 8th, I had a lengthy text interview (via the application Telegram, which I had to install on my phone for the interview) for the position with a Mrs. Karen Halsted. Mrs. Halsted told me via text that the interview process was supposed to last 20 minutes. It lasted many hours; there were many long periods of silence during the text conversation. I was eventually offered a position by text. I was told that in the future, I would be receiving the job offer through the regular mail. On Sept. 9th, Mrs. Halsted texted me that she has "prepared your hiring documents but i'm yet to get them signed. They will be mailed to you as soon as i get the documents signed."

Some of the other flags about the process are:

- The position was supposed to be a Customer Service position, but it suddenly morphed into a Data Entry/Accounting position.

- Mrs. Halsted said that Maryland Legal Aid would supply the necessary hardware and software for the job, and were going to send me a check for that equipment, which I was to give to a vendor designated by Maryland Legal Aid.

- At the conclusion of the interview last night, Mrs. Halsted texted "Have a blessed evening. God bless!!!" Although I am a Christian, I found this unusual in our American culture, which strives to be secular. I had not mentioned anything about God during the interview process.

- Mrs. Halsted told me that they would be sending me an offer of employment via regular mail, but told me to report for work promptly Sept. 9, 2020 at 8:00 AM. I sent her a text at 7:59, but didn't get a response. As I mentioned, I hadn't yet received a written offer of employment.

- When I reported for work this morning at 8:00, and texted my greeting to Mrs. Halsted, she was not online. The app said that she had last been online at 1:00 AM. She responded to my text around 8:45 AM, and directed me to await further instructions. At 10:47, she texted me that she had "prepared your hiring documents but i'm yet to get them signed. They will be mailed to you as soon as i get the documents signed."

I have reported this matter to Indeed.com. I also reported it to Maryland Legal Aid, who confirmed that the job offer was a scam.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Sincerely,
