Lapointe Law Firm was emailing me from this email address, “[email protected]” and texting me through this phone number “ +1 (626) 213-2979.” They claimed their name was “Mary Jane Lapointe.” They emailed me my job offer acceptance letter and agreement contract and told me they would send me a check to purchase my equipment such as a laptop and printer so I could work remotely. I was sent the $4,825 check on Thursday, April 27, 2023. I proceed to deposit the check and the bank put it as pending the day of but the next day on Friday, April 28, 2023 the bank told me the check has been processed and that it will be fully available in my account on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. To get the ball rolling, I decided to use money of my own to start purchasing the equipment needed because I knew this $4,825 check would be posted fully on my account on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. I emailed “Mary Jane” asking if she knew where exactly I could purchase the materials and she told me she knew a private vendor that could buy it and install the softwares needed for me. She told me to cash app and Zelle the vendor money that was supposed to be from the check. I did not think anything of it so I went ahead and sent her money of my own to “purchase” my supplies. Everything sent via Zelle and cash app added up to the total amount of the check which was $4,800. $3,000 was sent to their cash app account “$MKJHV” and $1,800 was sent directly to their Zelle which was sent to “[email protected]” On Tuesday, May 2, 2023 I get a notification from the bank stating the check has been reversed because it was a fraud check. This meant I lost $4,800 of my OWN money. I proceed to try to contact the email and phone number and the messages and emails bounced back. They deleted everything that would trace back to them. I quickly called my banks to try to dispute these transactions but it is not 100% certain I will get my money back…
