Opening the official USPS shipping envelope I found 2 articles inside. First is a letter with directions to follow in order to get my car wrapped. Enclosed with the letter is a check. A “VERY REAL” check! The check is for the amount of $2750.00! It’s Christmas time and lord knows I can use this money and the desperation is urging me to throw caution out the window and just believe this is true. At any rate, this check is from Wells Fargo bank and the account holder giving me this money is issued from Maronda,inc @ 11 Timberglen Drive Imperial, PA 15126. There is a phone number in the letter that I’m told to text. (702)625-5750. Text this number to identify myself before depositing check. My full name, the amount of the check I was sent and the check number I received must all be in the text. I’m told that once I deposit this check $500.00 is my first weeks pay. $50.00 is for gas in my car and the remaining $2200.00 is payment to wrap my car in decals for DASANI water. Now you would think that you would drive to a garage or business and pay while they wrap my car. Nope. I’m to send a check or wire this money to someone out of the country!
The SCAM: Once you deposit this check and send the money to the company to wrap your car and you put the $50.00 towards your gas and you spend your first weeks pay of $500.00 your car still won’t be wrapped. No one will answer your texts. The only business you will hear from is YOUR BANK. Without knowing you deposited and spent the funds on a bounce/bad check. Now, YOU OWE YOUR BANK $2750.00!!
Thankfully, I looked up the name of the business in the check. Maronda, inc at 11 Timberglen Drive in Imperial PA does exist. But, are not part of this decal group. It is a building company. Then I checked Better Business Bureaus site where I read of many scams just like this. Familiar products like Monster Drinks and Dasani Water.
Beware of any texts or emails promising money weekly if you wrap your car in advertisements.
