I was selling an item on Facebook Marketplace for $700. I was contacted on 03/07/2022 on Facebook Messenger by Betty Richardson stating her partner, Mark is interested in buying the item, to text him at 575-221-4739. I texted him the same day at 3:13 PM, sent him pictures of the item and price. He stated he wanted to buy it but he was out of town and asked if I would accept either a bank cashiers check or money order then he would have it picked up by a private moving company once the payment is received and cashed or cleared into my bank account. I agreed to accept a bank cashiers check and texted him my name and address for him to send payment to me which he said he would mail to me by USPS express mail priority on 03/08/2022 and I should receive it in 2 or 3 days. I asked him where he lives and he said currently in Las Vegas, NV. On 03/12/2022, I received another text from him stating I would receive the payment on 03/14/2022 but there was a little problem as his assistant mistakenly included the shipping fee with the check because the shippers has some other items to be picked up for them at different locations so he wanted to inform me of this and to let him know if he won't have any problems with the extra funds which is to be sent to the movers after receipt of the payment. I did not respond to this text. On 03/14/2022, at 7:45 AM I received another text from Mark stating his phone had gotten broken and I could reach him at 716-295-8866. I did not respond to this text either. Same day at around 2:00 PM, my mail carrier brought 2 Priority Mail envelopes to me from Mark. The mail carrier stated it was strange because each envelope should have it's own tracking number but both envelopes had the same tracking number. Each envelope contained what appears to be a cashiers check drawn on Mountain Crest Credit Union, Everett Branch 1328 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201. Each check is in the amount of $2,480.00 and each check has the same check number but each check is a little different in appearances, such as the bank logo is not in the exact same place on each check and the routing number has been torn off one of the checks. Same day at 2:31 PM I received another text from Mark that he received notification from the post office that I received the payment and asked that I make the deposit of the payment and send him a copy of the deposit slip. 03/15/2022, 1:39 PM again received a text from Mark stating "hello, how are you doing?". I am not cashing these checks or communicating any further with Mark as I feel this is a scam.
