I responded to a craigslist add selling puppies. I contacted the seller via text message. At first it all seemed legitimate, he texted me a couple of pictures of the puppies to choose from as he claimed he had a litter of different colors. I chose one and he sent me a bill of sale and requested a $300.00 down payment via Zelle. I sent the payment via Zelle and a day later the alleged seller claimed he had not received the payment yet. I called my bank and it all seemed good from my end. The seller then claimed that without a down payment he could not hold my puppy and wanted the payment via Venmo which I refused to send. I emailed him back because by now he stated that he had lost his cell phone. In the email I offered to drive to the address he provided in the bill of sale which is a four hour drive from where I live. I offered to bring in the total amount of the sale which was $700 in cash but he refused and said he needed a down payment first otherwise he could not guarantee the puppy would be there.

After knowing that he wouldn't take $700 in cash, I decided to report this as a scam.
