I first received a call from "Nicole Stanford". She said I owed CHeck n Go $1100 and that there was a pending complaint against me. She knew the last four of my SS#, my email address, my old address, the last four of my bank account number. I asked for a verification of debt. She emailed me a document that only said what she had said over the phone. There was no original amount of the loan, or a settlement amount that she had mentioned earlier, nothing, just the amount owed to Management ASsociates, LLC. I looked up the address on apple maps and its a huge area with a lot of businesses in it. Ste 130, however is a UPS store where people can get PO Boxes. I didn't call back, assuming it was a scam. Today, I got a call from someone from management associates calling himself Mark Hamlin. He said that he was about to send the complaint against me to the court. I questioned him extensively and he kept accusing me of refusing to pay what I owed, he became increasingly agitated and more aggressive. At the end of the call, he told me the make and model of my car, my license plate number and that the authorities would be out looking for me. That part made me laugh because that's just not within his power to do. He said, "Oh you're laughing?? It's funny?". Then I think he hung up. I called Amherst Police because I wanted to see if this was a legitimate business. I've dealt with debt collectors before even though now I'm debt free. They told me to call my local police here in Texas. I then called Amherst Chamber of Commerce and they couldn't find that business name and verified that the address given was the UPS store. I supposed I will call the police here because they won't stop calling.
