I have been looking for a French Bulldog puppy for my husband’s 65th birthday. I searched several websites and finally landed on www.MaisonPuppies.com. On Sunday, Nov. 1, I called them (562.633.8422) and spoke with a man calling himself ‘Richard’. We spoke for a while and he convinced me his puppies were ‘healthy and ready to go at 12 weeks old’. I even commented on his accent asking if he was from England. He then asked if I had filled out the paperwork on their website, I had not so I then filled it out. According to the site, the puppy would be delivered to my door within 48 hours of payment of $1050.00. I tried to send the company money through my PayPal account. Since I personally do not use PayPal very often, PayPal questioned if it was me, I said yes. ‘Richard’ then calls me a few hours later saying he had not received the money. I looked on my PayPal activity tab. It was not posted so I cancelled and sent two other payments at $500.00 and $550.00. ‘Richard’ then calls me and says he was locked out of receiving any money from my PayPal due to the fact that I sent so much money in a short amount of time. PayPal had locked him out from getting the money. (PayPal is retrieving all monies sent to ‘Richard’ due to fraud.) ‘Richard' then asked me to use the ‘Zelle’ app to send him money, it did not work, so I asked him about using my credit card, he said he could not process the card because of something to do with Covid. I tried to cancel the purchase then. ‘Richard’ then suggested to me to go to WalMart and purchase ‘Vanilla One Mastercard’, send him the pictures of the front and back of the card and he would send the puppy. I was very excited to do this as I wanted that puppy for my husband’s birthday on Nov. 10. Early Nov. 2, I went to WalMart, purchased 3 cards because the card would only allow me to put $500.00 on the prepay. So I put $500.00 on 2 of the cards and $50.00 on the third, sent ‘Richard’ the pictures and expected a puppy by Nov 3 or 4. Later in the day on Nov. 2, ‘Richard’ calls and says the airline is requiring I insure the puppy in a specialized crate, all insurance monies would be returned to me once I had the puppy. The cost would be $1400.00 more. I told him absolutely NO because his web site promised to send the puppy once he got the money. That was when I realized something was wrong, he told me he would call later in the evening with the details of the puppy’s arrival. I never got another call from him. Today, Nov. 3, I called twice, no answer on ‘Richards’ phone. I left a message and told him I have called the FBI and The Better Business Bureau. I called the Vanilla One Mastercard number on the back of the prepaid cards, talked with ‘Martina’ from Gift Card Department who told me the cards had been used at Bloomingdales and Google. She then sent this ‘Dispute Department’ paperwork to fill out.
