I reached out to Loyal Bassets to inquire about adopting a Basset Hound. They seemed interested in making sure the dog went to a good home, and told me that they would be able to ship the dog to me. The cost would be $600 for the dog and $150 for shipping. I signed what looked like a real contract and sent the money over via Zelle on Sunday.

Then I got a phone call at seven this Monday morning from US Pet Air Carriers saying they were going to ship the dog this morning - it was already at the airport! - and that they needed an additional $1500 sent via Zelle immediately so that they could put the dog in a special thermal electronic crate for travel. Although the crate would cost $1500, they would have $1470 to be refunded after the animal arrived. They did not give me any warning that the puppy would be put on the plane today and they did not tell me about this extra charge, sent through Zelle through a random woman's email address, so I went online and that's when I discovered this was a classic pet scam.

I called the bank but they couldn't stop the transfer through Zelle; meanwhile Loyal Bassets asked me for another $750 because they said the first amount didn't go through. When I said I wouldn't and that this sounded like a scam, and that I was concerned about the puppy - where was it? I never heard back.

I will also be reporting the US Pet Air Carriers - they have a dummy site set up online that has broken links, so a preliminary look appears legit. These scammers also feel comfortable texting and calling you to up the immediacy, and will tell you to your face that this isn't a scam if you ask them. (The US Pet Carriers folks. The Loyal Basset folks never responded after I called them out.)

I have been looking for a basset hound puppy and fell prey to loyal bassets website. The initial emails were very good and personal. They asked me about my history with puppies. I told them we just lost our dog and they were very sympathetic. Then we started texting. It took awhile for them to respond to my text and most of the time the text message response they sent were very short answers. They did call me once and answer some of my questions but I still felt uneasy. I have never bought an animal that I had to have transported so I had concerns. I asked for pictures and they did send me personal pictures of the puppies. All of them in a home environment one even had his nose licking inside the dishwasher. The one thing they never did was send me a video. That made me Leary. The only time they responded quickly was when we discussed sending the money. Which of course was Google pay so once it clears the bank you can’t get it back. Ever since the money cleared my acct I have not heard of them. I’m so upset with my self. I tried to find negative information on line but didn’t find any. But of course after I was scammed my husband found them on pet scams.com. I want to warn others not to have dealings with these scammers.
