My husband, received a text message at the end of March 2023 and it was from someone looking for Anna, he said it was a wrong number and it took off from there. Then she moved him to the telegram app. They spoke about financial freedom and investing and she mentioned she currently invests using lbank and suggested he do that too. She mentioned her uncle does trade analysis and that he will help with when to invest. That’s when investing started. She said he could start with 100$ and go from there. They made the first “profit” from there. There’s just a list of transactions and she wanted him to add more so that he could gain more. When he couldn’t add more she suggested to him to get a loan from lbank, which the profits gained can be used to pay it off. He wasn’t comfortable getting a large loan so he got a small loan of $2,000. They continued with the transactions. When there was a good amount of earnings ($57000), it was suggested that he withdraw all the money and pay off the loan. So he attempted to pay the loan and he was informed that he cannot pay the loan off via the earnings of his investments and that he would have to pay off the loan via external means. He was given a 3 day period to pay off the loan. He was instructed that he had to deposit the loan into lbank and that could be used to pay off the loan. That didn’t take effect and he reached out to customer service and was told that he had to pay to a specific bitcoin address. The account was locked and he couldn’t withdraw any money until the loan was paid off. So he made the payment via Moonpay. Then he attempted to withdraw $10,000 from the earnings but it was put into review status. He reached out to customer support and asked why it was put into review status and was told that he needed to pay tax on the earnings before he could withdraw any money. And that if he doesn’t make the payment within 5 days there will be a 5% daily fee. It was at this point we both realized this is probably a scam and found out online this is called the pig butchering scam.
