An individual named Theodore contacted my company to perform lawn service on a property that is currently listed for sale in Ithaca NY. My business partner contacted him and sent me an estimate to forward for approval. Theodore accepted the estimate but then proceeded to ask if he could send us an additional $1400 to pay his interior designer and workers who will also be working on the property. We recently had a similar attempted scam where the client sent us additional money and then asked us to transfer the money via PayPal Friends and Family, so I was on to the scam and questioned Theodore as to his identity. It appears he used the first name of the realtor listing the home for sale, but he was unable to give me his real estate license number and disengaged from contact after I told him I was going to call his real estate office to confirm his identity and contact him by phone.

Scammer offered handyman services. We hired him to redo our lawn. He came out and did an estimate, was friendly and seemingly professional. He did measurements and talked with us about the service being offered intelligently. He emailed a professional looking quote that detailed the service. Once we payed the down payment he hasn’t been able to be reached. Calls go straight to voicemail.
