My girlfriend was searching for work online and found a job as a personal assistant. Upon contacting the "employer," going by the name Laura Tun, the fake employer began describing things that my girlfriend would need to do for her. Communication took place over a 4 day period by text message. The employer stated that she was out of the country and would need bills paid, shopping done, and other things alike. The employer stated she worked for Bridge Span Consulting (a nonprofit organization who is a legitimate company). Yesterday the employer stated that she would be sending a check to my girlfriend for $3,000.00 My girlfriend has never done any work for Laura Tun or exchanged any information besides an address and work schedule up to this point. At this time I became very suspicious. I looked at the email Laura Ton provided and then got online to the companies website. The emails did not match what the company uses. I then called the company and they had no record of any employee by the name Laura Tun. The company also stated this was not the first time someone had called asking if Laura Tun was an employee. Laura Tun then asked my girlfriend to meet herself and some of her employees at an address in our local area. I traced the phone numbers Laura Ton gave and they came back to an individual in Washington. Today a check came in the mail for $2,850. I also searched our local police database for residence in our county and the address given belongs to two separate individuals. We are not sure of those individuals involvement at this time. We believe the check to be fraud, and are currently working with our local police detectives. We believe this might be a sex trafficking operation or a human trafficking operation but have yet to make any official determinations. The check came from First Convenience Bank out of Texas. The mailing slip on the envelope the check came in is from Byrnes Mill, MO. The tracking number for the check came from Indianapolis IN. There are two different names on the check, and a different name for the sender of the check. None of which are Laura Tun.
