Launchpeer LLC claimed to offer guaranteed help ultimately securing funding for startup founders who lacked the means or know-how to build their own app. The deal was that for $10K, for which they offered a payment plan, they would help build a prototype and then find investors to pitch that prototype to. If you were unable acquire at least $10K in funding, you would become eligible for a refund. My friend and business partner took out the loan for this service in his name. We entered Launchpeer’s program in early December. Today, out of the blue, we received vague notice that Launchpeer would be filing for bankruptcy and soon discovered the company’s website and social media pages had been taken down. My friend was told by the third-party loan company — Special Financing Co. of Hampton, Va. — that he’s still on the hook for the payments despite the fact Launchpeer will clearly be unable to deliver the agreed upon services. Launchpeer remains unresponsive as to any recourse for repayment so that my friend can satisfy his fiduciary obligations to the the third party, which I suspect has conspired with Launchpeer or its employees.
