Sunday, Aug12/18 I placed an ad on Kijiji looking to rent a cottage. I received a response from "Kyle" stating he had a property due to a cancellation on Gull Lake an hour away from Winnipeg. He sent pictures of the cottage and we negotiated a price. We agreed to send him $350 via E-transfer to email [email protected]. He then said we would receive the cottage package with the info, address, coupons etc. That evening I had a bad feeling and looked up his number, and found out that he had scammed other people as well. I then confronted him about it, but he acted like he didn’t know anything about these incidents. I send him screenshots of complaints where everything went exactly as in my situation. I requested an address of the cottage, because I wanted to check out in person if he was telling the truth. The response I got was that he did not want give us the address due to “privacy concerns for the current renters". I then requested a refund but he refused to return the money stating: “well you made a verbal contract you agreed to it o have no changes any terms so will not be refunding it and will.not be changing the details of the arrangement”. We’ll be informing our bank branch, the police department, kijiji and Government of Canada. People please be aware of this scammer, he ruined our nice weekend and we’ll not be renting any more cottages online because of him.
