KMTA is a talent agency. I requested representation for my daughter. I was sent a confirmation appointment for an "open casting call" to meet the agent (Elsa). My daughter was asked to learn a script, which she did. We travelled from out of town to the "appointment" on a Saturday morning. Once in the talent agent's office, she reviewed our documents (we have a valid work permit, a Coogan trust account, professional head shots, and casting website accounts and profiles on the two main casting websites- absolutely NO hangups for not taking us on immediately for representation). The agent complimented my daughter and raved over her marketability, and informed us that she could add her to the agency roster and how successful she would be (all of which was said in front of my 9 year old daughter). However, she then informed me that I am required to take new head shots with her recommended photographer because mine were "very bad" and that I would be required to enroll my daughter in "INSPIRE Acting and Modeling Training School" (which is the same company as KMTA and linked on their website) for $1650 per year. She offered to allow me to make monthly payments of $223 instead of a lump sum amount. I declined and she informed me that she would give me until Monday to "decide" if I wanted to do the acting school so that she could add us to the agency roster. She then sent a follow up email with the registration information for Inspire, that clearly states that enrolling in the acting school to be a requirement for being represented by her and the agency. This very much appeared to be the standard practice at this agency and is a well-know scam tactic used by disreputable "talent agents." KMTA state they are a "kids agency" with a few select young adults, which is a clear indication they are scamming parents based on emotions, hopes and dreams. I am not sure the business is even legitimate. It is run out of a small office space with a few pictures on the wall and a mock up runway taped on the ground to give the impression that they have "shows" or "classes" there. I did not give any financial or personal information to them, but I am not sure what the result would be if I had agreed to enroll.
