I googled "kitchenaid" and clicked on the first result. It was a google ad, so shame on Google for not vetting who they advertise. I did not look close enough at what I clicked on, and this was a huge mistake that would cost me. The website it took me to appeared to be the KitchenAid website. I stupidly thought that it was and did not question it once. I was in a hurry to replace the mixer I had just broken by dropping it in oil. And I was so relieved that KitchenAid was asking less for it than Amazon. So I purchased a mixer from this site. I should have seen the warning signs, like the huge sale they were having for no reason, the slightly blurry photos, etc.. One red flag I missed was that PayPay was the only method of payment they take. I now know why that is, which I'll explain later. Since I prefer PayPal anyway, I didn't care and completed the purchase on PayPal. But then when I was finished and returned to the merchant's site, that's when I finally noticed that the URL was not Kitchenaid.com, but https://www.kitchenmixerstore.com/. I was horrified that I had just given my money and info to a scam website. I immediately went to PayPal to cancel the order, but there was no option to do that. I contacted PayPal and the scammer multiple times to try to get the order canceled and refunded. The scammer never replied to me of course. PayPal refused to do anything except open a case, which takes time and still allows the scammer lots of ways to get away with it. I am very disappointed in PayPal because they brag about their buyers protection, yet they will not even issue immediate refunds for obvious cases of fraud. While researching this KitchenAid scam that night, I saw that many others have fallen prey to it. And what makes it worse is that PayPal has let them get away with it. What the seller did to get PayPal to dismiss their case was provide a fake tracking number saying that they did deliver the item. Even though the tracking info shows that the item was delivered before or on the same day that the product was ordered, PayPal doesn't care and still sides with the scammer. I have since learned from a person I spoke to at PayPay that the case outcomes are automated and not always reviewed by a human. So it's usually a 50/50 chance that the scammer will get away with it using this fake tracking number tactic, which is what they are banking on. Now I know why they only allow you to pay with PayPal, it is so that they can take advantage of this massive flaw in PayPal's system. Needless to say, the scammer did the same thing with me and provided a tracking number saying the product shipped days before I placed my order and that it was delivered the day I placed it. I provided proof of this but I didn't wait around for my case to be denied. I called PayPal and explained the fake tracking info situation. They said that there is a way to verify that it is fake by talking to USPS, since the tracking info only shows city and state and not my actual address. That answers my question of how they made this fake tracking number. They just found a tracking number for someone in my city who received a package that day and used that. The PayPal representative verified that the tracking info was fake and got me my refund. So if this ever happens to you, talk to a person instead of waiting for their automated system to screw you over. I am still sick over the fact that these people now have my full name, address, and email. And it kills me knowing how much money they've taken from others.
