This person contacted me, offering to pay $** an hour for urgent need of a personal assistant. He was very soft spoken and difficult to understand. First they called asking if I had received their message on Indeed. I hadn't. They asked me to confirm my email address and I did. They then sent me a link to the job description and called me for an "interview" the next day. Next, I was asked to fill out this application form and attach my resume: https://www.tfaforms.com/4912892 Then, I got a text that I have been selected for the job. I was sent an appointment letter and was asked to send it back signed, which I did. Then I received an email saying "I received your copy of the appointment letter. On Monday I will contact my private vendor for your work equipment and it will be delivered in a few days so we can get to work. Preferably, I want you to do all your work on this computer, including sending your Form W-2 and direct deposit form to HR.

I have a private vendor in charge of getting your equipment, your computer will be automatically routed to the National Cyber Security Division of Homeland Security (NCSD) as our ultimate firewall to prevent virus attacks from hackers. As embarrassing as it sounds, our organization was hacked recently and our data compromised. This is why we are taking extreme precautions and making sure our employees and files are 100% safe. I hope you understand.

* All-in-One Printer

* Video Conferencing Equipment

* 128 GB External Hard Drive

The next day, I received a call from him that the vendor was out of stock of some of the items and that his wife was sick with COVID in the hospital so he needed me to take care of paying the vendor. They overnighted me a cashier's check through FedEx, which I was told to deposit in my account. Then I was asked to wait until the next day for instructions. When confronted about the scam, they stopped responding and will not answer my phone calls. I lied and said my bank flagged the deposit for fraud and asked them to provide their FEIN/EIN. They did not. Many things about this scam looked legit: has a website, domain name in email address, my name was on the cashier's check, texts/emails/websites were professional. They also got a lot of things wrong: address has no suite number (Google Maps says the address he gave me is a new office building), website made in 2021, they cold called me, etc.
