King Belgian Malinois Reports & Reviews (1)

- Lowell, MA, USA

I was shopping for a puppy online and came upon a web site: KingBelgianMalinois.com which had puppies for sale. I corresponded, via a form on their web site and met a contact who called himself Garret Moore. Through further correspondence by e-mail: [email protected], Moore seemed both knowledgeable and reasonable, asking me questions about my ability to care for his puppies and my experience with this high energy breed. I had owned one previous who was killed in a tragic accident.

All seemed fine, although I was a little concerned about his price being lower than everyone else, but he explained himself as being a small family breeder and not a large business. He set the price of $800, which was $600 for the puppy and $200 for shipment to my door. He said he would email me a bill of sale to sign and for me to send back a photo of the signed bill of sale along with the $800. I sent it to his g-mail account via Zelle using my Bank Of America account. After receiving the payment and the signed bill of sale he sent me a link to the shipper he was using.

I also received an e-mail from the shipper: Mega Air Express, located in LA California, near where the seller was located. It also gave me a me a tracking number. All seemed fine. The next day I was contacted by the shipper and was told the state of California required travel insurance for my dog to cover any unforeseen event that may come along, as well as assure I would not abandon the dog. This amount was for $1500, the value of the dog, which I was told would be refunded upon delivery.

I was concerned. However, along with the request , they had sent me what appeared to be the laws from the state of California that could hold the pet owner, which I assumed was me, for animal abuse if the dog was abandoned at the airport in LA. I paid again with Zelle.

After the payment I received an e-mail from the shipper that all was well and my puppy insurance had been accepted and the puppy will shipped from LA to NYC. This was confirmed by the tracking number update. All seemed to be OK, although strange.

The following day I get an email from the shipper saying I need to pay again for paperwork for the USDA in NYC. For some reason the flight went into customs and there was concern over transporting animal disease to NY from Cal. They needed another $2500 to do the needed paperwork with this money also refundable upon receiving the puppy. I was at the point of no return and sent the money. Again the tracking number reflected the change from NYC to Pittsfield MA. I still had hope.

The next day; yesterday, they told me I needed more paper work and vaccinations to conform to Massachusetts standards of health concern. I sent $1050 and they the told me the puppy will be shipped to me the next day by 2pm. It never arrived.

I had kept this all private to be a surprise. But I told my sister a few hours before the expected delivery and she quickly found this same scam had been run on others. I am not sure why I was so blind, but I ignored all yellow flags. I was taken in because it sort of seemed reasonable and I was hoping for the best outcome from honest people.
