I went on offerup to purchase a car. I contacted seller of jeep through the website and was responded to by a women who said sge was selling sons jeep since he recently passed. She stated she bought into buyer protection plan through Offerup so transaction was secure for both parties involved without concern for fraud. She asked for my email so she could have offerup initiate transaction and provide invoice for car along with instructions on how they will verify funds and transport car to my location. I gave my email and i received invoice from Offerup Protection for Buyer/Seller. It said i was to purchase Vanilla Visa gift cards to equal amount of vehicle, they would verify cards once i took picture of front and back and sent them to email address of invoice. The car was in a warehouse of Offerup and they would transport vehicle upon verification of funds on cards.

I got cards but didnt take them out of packaging, took the pics and sent them. I was feeling really uneasy so i emailed [email protected] for vin # of vehicle and received a reply that i could get that from offerup once i resent copies of cards out of packaging. I immediately knew i was scammed and contacted offerup( they did nothing) and the Vanilla Visa Gift card company( they didnt seem to care either.
