My mom is recently retired and has always wanted a Parrot. She decided to not tell anyone she was looking online and came across J&J Parrots website claiming they were reputable breeders located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She communicated via email and phone over a period of several days with “Barry” who sent her pictures of a “male Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrot” who was only “15 weeks old”. He explained purchase process and that they register the Parrot with a third-party shipping company who then contacts the recipient with tracking info and ships directly to the purchaser’s home. After making the purchase, my mom surprised us with the news. She expressed how excited she was and pleased with what seemed so convenient and easy, she informed us she made the purchase via **** ***. Once she sent the $1750, “Barry” emailed her a receipt and told her to look out for contact from the shipping company, Western Global. She eventually received a email that she found in her SPAM inbox notifying her the shipment status was “on-hold”. She tried contacting “Barry” and eventually received a reply email that they tried contacting her. My mom received no calls or messages from J&J Parrots or Western Global besides the on-hold shipping notification email. Since they could not get ahold of her, the Parrot was sent back to “Barry”. He provided no other information. My mom tried contacting him several times via email and phone with no answer or reply. My mom is not very computer savvy but, can navigate the basics. She was unaware and naive to scams like these and is more disappointed that she didn’t receive the Parrot she was so excited about than the money.
