Applied for a wrapping specialist position on a job board. Was emailed about the position and then was interview by what sounded like an automated messaging system (Red Flag #1). wasn't sure if it was a scam so I did some research under the company name and didn't find any scams linked to the name so I went through with another email. I was emailed again and given a portal in which to access. I was also given direction that wrapping material was being mailed to me in a few days. Took maybe 2-3 days, It was an economy sized roll of birthday wrapping paper. Still not sure if it was a scam or not I emailed the supervisor stating that I was looking into other employment. He told me that I could do it part time and so I continued with the process. I thought that if it was a scam then they would have just dropped the employment do to my hesitation. So i continued with another email. I then received a package in the mail after reading over the information on what was required for the job. Get a package in the mail, wrap package according to their standard and then mail package out to customer. I questioned the different names and addresses on the return address but was told that it was so the customer did not know your identity. (red flag#2). I continued with a second item being shipped since I wasn't spending any of my money shipping the items and the $1500 base pay 21 day trial period looked enticing. It was also stated that for every package mailed you would receive $50. The portal added up your pay and by the end of the trial period you would request your paycheck. Then every 30 days after the trial period. It took me to the 4th and 5th package to realize that this was a scam. I first started seeing that the items were electronics and higher in price. The first three items were eye shadow, a hat and a cell phone. Probably to see if I was actually going to take on the job. The next 2 were higher end and then I noticed on the next shipments they were all high end items which drew a red flag in which my husband researched postal scams and found the article of the exact thing that I applied for online. We believe if it is the same type of scam that it said that these individuals steal credit car numbers and buy the items with stolen credit card numbers and then have them mailed out through a third person. I went to the state police and they told me to contact the State Attorney General's Office.
