I knew I had lost money in a timeshare rental scheme several years ago, and so this initially sounded legitimate.
Them Mr. Michael Thomas Daniels, attorney, called to say that since the illegal profits were placed in an offshore account, I would have to pay an initial ""luxury tax" $4255.58 to bring them into the U.S.
At that point, I explained to Mr. Daniels that I absolutely would not pay anything up front, that my sister had been a victim of the so called "Sweepstakes Scam" 8 years ago, and unless his firm could cover this upfront Tax, I was out.
He sent me an invoice for the $4255.58, and I have not responded to any contact from the company since.
That email arrived on April 22, 2025.
Since then, several attempts have been made to reach me by phone, but I have not responded.
I did have my attorney take a look at the documents (they sent me several), and although this is not his area of practice, he was concerned that this case was a criminal one, not a civil one, and the restitution offer concerned him.
I have tried to located someone to report this to, but have discovered that is not simple. So I am trying the BBB!
