On or about Nov 15th 2021 I discovered the attached business card offering a variety of handyman services. I had a leaky pipe and needed some drywall and painting work. An individual calling himself JC answered the phone and when I explained what I wanted done he agreed to come onsite and give me a quote for the materials and work. He arrived on the 16th for the site visit and we agree to a price of $1000 dollars with a signed contract. JC arrived at 8am on the morning of the 18th of November and brought in a ladder, drop cloth and some tool boxes. He advised that once he cut a hole in the ceiling to get to the leaky pipe he would give me a status update. At about 11am he advised of his assessment of the problem which would require some PVC piping, drywall and paint. He asked for $300 to go and purchase materials and would ask for the $700 balance on completion of the job. I agreed and wrote a check to J&C Construction. JC advised he was going to Lowe's and would be back in about an hour. That was over 3 weeks ago and he has not returned. Additionally he did cash the $300 check the same day at Regions Bank. He has not returned numerous voice mail and text messages. I still have cut holes in my ceilings as a result of this scam.
