Over a year ago, I needed to renew my Kaspersky Computer Protection, I searched on line and contacted a web site claiming to be Kaspersky, I was told by the technician that I would be getting Webroot, which he said was partnered with Kaspersky. He said that they have a one time life time fee and would never have to pay anything ever again as he would personally be handling my account. Then a year later he called again asking for additional money to cover some unexpected security charges, he started at $300 and when I told him I couldn't afford that and would have to go elsewhere for my protection, he gradually settled on $75. My PC did have a Webroot account and I was being protected up to a few weeks ago, then I noticed it said it was expired. After reading an article in the AARP magazine on scammers out of India, instead of calling this guy (who while saying he was living in Hawaii had a very distinctive Indian accent), I decided to go directly to Webroot. The Webroot IT agent confirmed that I did have their protection through a fraudulent method of buying web protection from Best Buy and then selling the account info several times over to [censored] like me, who paid dearly for a years worth of protection, that had I used Webroot direct, could have bought me 3 years of legitimate protection.
