We were looking to adopt a Golden Retriever, and we came across a website: https://www.ivygoldenretrieverpuppies.com/available-puppies , which listed available puppies to adopt. We thought the website to be credible because of the many videos and pictures that the breeders had sent us. We had emailed the "breeders'' and they had told us very little about the dogs themselves, and directly mentioned the payment for shipping, since their "business" was from Ohio. The breeder's name was Ivan, however after asking a few questions, an email from the name, James Maloy with the email address "[email protected]" sent us emails with a contract for adoption. We ended up signing the contract and sending the payment through Zelle to someone named Gabriel, who we assumed was James' associate, since the website initially looked credible. "James" responded immediately to all of our emails of inquiry with only three word answers. The next day we got a phone call from a random phone number with the name of Gabriel saying that the puppy we were "adopting" was in the process of being shipped to us immediately but because we did not have pet insurance we needed to pay him 1,500. We immediately knew that this was a scam, because the amount was ridiculous for an insurance fee. We have learned our lesson and we are reporting this so that this doesn't happen in the future. We hope that something can be done about this.

There were many red flags that I want cover so that this does not happen in the future.

- The dogs up for adoption we advertised with a discount

- The email addresses did not link up with the description of the breeders on the website

- The adoption fee was sent through zelle

- No interview process

- There was no face to face contact to discuss the contract or adoption

- There was an added insurance fee (We did not pay) that was more than the adoption fee itself

- The contract has a different email address that has established no contact with us that has been attached in the information above that is still valid
