Google search took me to this website to apply for federal EIN regarding household employee(s). At the end it asked for credit card info for charge of $227 or $247 expedited. I stopped there because this is supposed to be free. I searched more carefully and found the correct website of IRS.gov and applied there for the EIN and received EIN for free within a few minutes.

I realize that the primary scam is to collect money for this service, which I did not fall for. I am concerned, however, about the personal identification information that I submitted before reaching the payment screen: name, SSN, address. I hope this is not dangerous in that regard, but what's done is done regarding that. If you hear of them stealing identities in this way, please let me know.

"Kelly Williams" called, said I would go to jail for not paying taxes. They told me not to speak until they were done talking. She gave me 2 numbers: IRM9910268 and CP11TA. I'm not sure what those are for. My friend called the number back twice and they answered the phone "IRS" and they had an Indian or Chinese accent.
