Internal Revenue Services Reports & Reviews (41)

Received a phone message to immediately call back as I had a law suite actively against me. Called the number back. They asked what phone number the message was left on. I told them. Then proceed to "pull up my file". They knew my address. Stated I had misinformation on tax reports from 2009 to 2014 and that I failed to pay appropriately. I stated I always pay my taxes and that I have an accountant. They told me it was my choice to use a third party to do my taxes and that I would be going to jail not them. He then stated that I could lose my car, be convicted and put into jail if this went to court. If I want to avoid court, I needed to let them know if I was willing to work with them. I stated yes. He proceed to tell me his name Watson and badge number. Told me the call would be taped. Then passed me along to his supervisor. She to stated that I had two choices, be convicted or work with her. I asked her if I had received notice of the concern. She stated that I would not receive anything in the mail that my only option was to work directly with her or else she would pass my case along for conviction. I asked what amount was needed to cover the concern, she stated $7500. I asked what I need to do - were they looking for a credit card. She said no, that she needed me to go to my bank and get "green" cash and transfer the money to an IRS audit account that she would give me. I restated that she expected me to do this with no formal paperwork. She said yes. I told her I would rather go to jail.

I recognized early on that this was a scam, I just wanted to see how far they would go.

Later I recalled the number. They again asked for my phone number that I received the message on, I asked is that how this works that you look up my phone number - at which point the person called me names that I would prefer not to write. Extremely foul language.

This call is from Internal Revenue Services. This message is intended to contact you regarding an enforcement action executed by the U.S. Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate, judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. This is a final attempt to reach you. To resolve this issue immediately and to speak with a federal agent call that number (240) 204-9494. I repeat (240) 204-9494. Thank you.

Call received 05/16/2016 from the above number stating the "IRS is filing a lawsuit against" me. The voice made no mention of my name or location. I did not return the call.

I was called on 5/11/16 and left a message by a robo-caller. They said they were from the IRS, Internal Revenue Services and that a lawsuit was filed against me. I needed to call them back at the above number to find out more. I did call them back from my work phone. What I heard in the background was the sound of a boiler room operating, many, many voices and noise. The man who answered said, "hello?" I asked him if he was with the IRS. He said, "um, yeah." I then told him I was informed the IRS had a lawsuit against me and what did I need to do to clear this matter up (knowing full well this was a scam - I've been audited by the IRS in the past and I KNOW full well they send you many letters and never contact you any other way). He mumbled something like, "there's nothing, they'll have to arrest you" then hung up before I could respond. I would find this all laughable IF so many people weren't being scammed. [censored]. If they would just use half of their energy and resources to do something good, just think how different the world would be.

I have a company calling my house 3-4 times a day saying they are the IRS and the a fraud claim has been filed under my name. Once we get a rep on the phone they ask for personal information.

- Westerville, OH, USA

We received several robo calls from 562-257-8797 identifying itself as "Internal Revenue Services" and saying that we were being sued. It asked us to call immediately back, when I called in response it disconnected quickly.

I filed a complaint with the FCC today. I received two spoofed calls. The pre-recorded message said it was the Internal Revenue Service and they were filing a lawsuit against me. I checked the telephone number online and found out that it is not a valid phone number. The IRS website and CBS news have reported high numbers of IRS scams out there, including spoofing (caller makes it seems the caller is a different business and phone number than the real caller). I could not file a complaint with the IRS because their mailbox was full. By the way, the number was 407-779-0728. If you get a call, be careful not to give out personal information.

Voice mail left by the phone # 206-866-5895. Computer generated female voice stating a criminal lawsuit had been filed against me with the case #CH 76295. Wanted me or attorney on record to call immediately. "If I don't return the call the only thing I can do is wish you a good luck as the situation totally unfolds on you".

- Nashua, NH, USA

States that you are going to be arrested if you don't pay. Will not give their address.

This was a screened call. I didn't recognize the # and didn't answer.

The message that was left went like this:

The caller said she was with the internal revenue and that I was going to be sued by the IRS.very soon. She said that if I wanted to discuss the suit I should call the following phone number, 202-413-5117.

I received a phone all on January 19, 2016 at 9:41 a.m. It was a recording that said this was an officer with Internal Revenue Services. They have been trying to reach me and this was my final notice. They filed a lawsuit against me so please call 520-955-6201.

I would get a phone call from an automated recording saying they are officer Lauren Matthews of internal revenue services telling me to call back before they take action against me. It's a different number each time. When I do try to call back it's a busy signal that I get. They will not stop calling me.

Call states the IRS is suing us

- Litchfield, MN, USA

I filed a complaint just now, and not 30 seconds after I submitted my complaint, this outfit called again, at 5:47 central time. Same phone number and message, 206-900-9172 to get information about an IRS lawsuit against me.

The only difference is the recorded message was not choppy. It was the same recording with the same voice.

- Litchfield, MN, USA

On 10/14/15 at 1:04 central time, a recorded message was left on my answering machine. It states that this is "officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Services. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 206-900-9172."

The recording is very choppy. It is a female voice, American origin. The caller ID comes up that it originated in Seattle, WA.

There is utterly no reason the IRS would be after me, so I know this is not legit. I have notified my local police department.

- Vandalia, OH, USA

Have received phone messages two mornings in a row (9/16/15 and 9/17/15) stating "Internal Revenue Services - The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 310-362-4433, I repeat 310-362-4433."

I performed an internet search on the phone number above and found that others had also been receiving this same message this past week. Since I have never received anything in the mail from the IRS, I did not return the call and presumed that this message is bogus and phishing for personal information.
