I am moving into a new home and google searched “Change of address”. The first result says “US Postal Change of Address”. Without even thinking I assumed it was USPS, especially after going to the website and seeing in large letters, “Change your USPS address online”. I’ve done this 10+ times and was so used to knowing that it’s only $1 to change your address, I didn’t even think about it. Until a charge for $44.50 went through moments after hitting submit. I called to request a refund, and the automated response was to confirm my phone number, then said to expect my refund soon, and hung up. When you ask the AI to speak to a human agent, it says “Thank you! We look forward to speaking with you.” Then hangs up.

I thought I was on the USPS website changing my address which is usually $1.05 and it was identical to the USPS website change of address which I had used before. When I was done and submitted my credit card information I realized the site looked different than the USPS website when the action was complete. I then checked my email for the confirmation and realized it came from a different website and charged me $45. I don't even know if my address will be changed through USPS.

In light of the covid-19 stimulus package I went online to update my mailing address with the post office. I googled “change of address” and it was the very first website listed. They charged me over $40!!! When I called to get it back they said they could only refund a portion. I persisted and she hung up.
