This incident started with a job offer. I'm a graphic designer and a recruiter looked me up (on Adobe Portfolio, Linkdin, and Indeed), Elia G Simmons, from ASOS. He offered me an interview over Skype through instant messaging, but he refused to video chat with me. After going through the interview he offered me a job (I filled out employment information that included my social security number and driver's license number). The deal was that they would give me a sign-on bonus along with enough money to get my home office started. On 1/17/2023 Elia sent me a check via email which was very strange and tried to get me to deposit it. I tried several times through mobile deposit but the checks wouldn't clear. After spending several hours on this issue Elia started to grow more and more frustrated at the situation. I then decided to go to campus police on Eastern Michigan University's campus where they informed me that this was a common scam that happened to college students.
