This scam targets low-income families looking for housing in a search online. There are several houses that offer low rent as low as $400-$600. Once you call them, they offer grants for school, assistance with bills, and other random offers that eventually ask for your social security number. Unfortunately, I am so desperate that I fell for it. There was a woman who answered the phone and told me to look at some of the houses on the list with real addresses and schools near them. After I had already given my personal information as well as SSN I went to the first address and the lady said that she was the owner and was selling it; not renting it. My credit is not great but it is all I have to my name and now it is compromised as well. I appreciate any help with making sure that these people get caught and that I save another vulnerable person from falling for this in desperation for a place to house her children.
