A male claiming to be a student came to my door asking me to subscribe to the Mercury News and a portion of this money would go towards his college tuition. I did not want to subscribe so I instead donated $20. He insisted I fill out a form so the Bay Area News Group could match a portion to his college tuition. I agreed to fill it out only if I was not opted into getting contacted or billed for anything extra. A few months later, I am now receiving bills to pay for a subscription. Turns out it is a scam and extremely difficult to opt out. Please read dozens of others' reviews on Yelp who got scammed the same way: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-mercury-news-san-jose?start=100
