Listed a car for sale on Autotrader. Was contacted by a “buyer” who said they would send a check for asking price plus extra so that we could pay their “agent” who was going to pick up the car and transport it to the buyer who is out-of-state. Sounded odd but ok, we wanted to sell the car. The buyer sent a USPS tracking number for the package with the check in it. Package arrived with a check, and a letter about how the check needed to be deposited in our bank account immediately and to send them a confirmation of deposit via text and email, and to block out any sensitive info (wow, thanks scammer). The letter didn’t even have info about getting the car shipped, they mixed up their scams and sent a letter about getting the car “wrapped” with an advertisement for ten weeks. Initial “compensation” for doing this was $5400, of which, $3400 was our compensation , and the extra $2000 was the cost to get the car wrapped. If they hadn’t mixed up their scams, we could have lost $2000 to these scammers. See similar scams on ScamPulse.com website. All names, numbers, addresses are different, making it difficult finding these people. USPS package came from Bloomfield NJ, check was from **** **** ********* ******, Albuquerque NM, written from US Eagle FCU, also Albuquerque, with a P.O. Box number for an address. Grammar in communications was often not correct. Example from letter that was sent about getting the car “wrapped” from FAQs section: “Why are my sending a copy of deposit receipt?”
