Imposter: Microsoft Reports & Reviews (1)

- Greenwich, CT, USA

Saturday I went on a website on FaceBook. Upon doing so I received a message that my computer may have been infected and to contact "Microsoft" at an 877 AC number underneath Microsoft's purported trademark. To make a long story short, I paid $380 to get my computer "fixed" via telephone. I found out later that the website itself is a scam. I telephoned Microsoft and confirmed that the company was not a vendor of theirs. Microsoft did what was necessary to make sure my computer hadn't been infected. Later I managed to stop the check, albeit at fee of $30. I have gotten phone calls in the past from people--all of whom sounding to be *** ***--who claim they are from Microsoft. I always hang up on them. This was the first time I was victimized on-line. It will be the last as I was told by a Microsoft rep not to telephone the number on the screen but to immediately telephone THEIR tech division at which time they would take the appropriate action.
