Imposter Martin's Steel Works Inc. Reports & Reviews (1)

It was a job posting on Indeed, listed as a proofreading position for 'Martin's Steel Works inc', an actual company I found online with a website and everything it looked legit. I should have caught on faster to the red flags, close to 175 people applied, and I got an email from 'William Mott' about for a 30-minute interview on Skype with an 'Amy Spicer'. I expected it to be a video interview but was 'written interview' completely over Skype chat; who uses that anymore?! Took forever to read responses or ask vague questions with little to no personality and I was emailed a job offer acceptance letter the next day. Little to no work with 20 hour minimum or 50 hour maximum $22hr biweekly, paid leave, PTO, medical, the works. Felt too good to be true right, especially in California but I have a bachelor's so I figured maybe these are the opportunities that come with higher education, it would've been my first job post-college that fit my English major career. Weird time zone difference despite being in PST they would use 'EST', said there was required equipment like a MacBook Pro and laser printer and time tracking info that was to be provided BUT they would mail/email a check and I would have to purchase it from a vendor. Just super shady and overly complicated in my opinion, took a long time 'preparing the invoice' which was never sent by the way because I was suspicious since the interview so I grilled the 'head of HR Darren Mayhew' about the 'company' and asked for more job description and asked him to verify if this was a legit company. He responded 'How would you want me to do that?' Dude you tell me?! Automatic red flag if supposed authority doesn't know how to explain or assure proof. For added security I called the number I found on the actual company's website; I directed my call to the manager who asked briskly and immediately said 'negative' when I asked about the position. He flat tone said it was a scam m'am and that me and many others had been fooled, they're using this company as a trap for fake employment, how sad and pathetic. Be wary and careful!!! If it sounds too good to be true it usually is! Thank goodness it never got far enough but they do possess my resume, application, full name, email, and phone number, that's all thankfully. Reporting so no one else falls for their fake work profiles!
