A customer of our client’s received a letter via United States Postal Service that was made to look as if sent from CBIZ, Inc and a CBIZ, Inc. employee named John Fleischer. The letter asks the customer to enroll in a “mystery shopper” program. The letter instructs the reader to deposit a fraudulent check, purchase 5 Walmart gift cards at $500 each, and report on the purchasing process. The letter also instructs the reader to send an “Evaluation Report” that includes pictures of the Walmart gift cards with the redemption codes and corresponding pin numbers scratched and exposed. This suggests that the sender of the letter is fraudulently obtaining high-value Walmart gift cards.
