- San Antonio, TX, USA • Feb 26, 2024

Upon recommendation of Gavin Nichols, (Senior Program Officer - Community Engagement & Impact) SAN ANTONIO AREA FOUNDATION in January 2024 after our last Board Meeting, DREAMS FULFILLED THROUGH MUSIC followed up on the offer of a Yamaha GC1 Grand Piano being made available through a Donor Advised Funder. Cost to DFTM was to be the shipping fees only to transport from Little Rock, Arkansas to San Antonio. Email contact was made with a “Mrs. Katie Vaughn” supposed widow of the gentleman who had recently passed away and wanted his piano to be given to a charity that would be able to make good use of it. DFTM had made inquiries re: the cost of shipping and given a quote of $1,500.00. On Jan 28, 2024 we were informed that the piano had to be moved out of storage at IMPERIAL LOGISTICS & FREIGHT, 8405 STANTON RD. IN LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS no later than Jan. 31, 2024 to avoid additional storage charges. We were then quoted a price of $1,280.00 to have their company handle the moving and deliver the piano to DFTM @ 12:30PM on Tuesday, Feb 20, 2024. DFTM authorized payment of $1,280.00 through Zelle and the funds were deducted from our account at Bank of America. We received all proper receipts from the company, thus nothing seemed “off” and we were able to track progress of the shipment on the IMPERIAL LOGISTICS Website. Everything seemed to be legitimate until we received an email the morning of Feb. 20, 2024 from Mr. Dominic Griffith, Head Of Security, Imperial Logistics Freight stating the following: "We are very sorry to announce to you that your package with tracking #2319094114 due to arrive on (11.15.2023), will not be delivered as arranged/planned. (NOTE THE INCORRECT DATE) Our Security team during inspection noticed some form of materials (Cash)was hidden in a compartment inside the "YAMAHA PIANO". The reason we did not notify you is because we have been trying to get a hold of Ms. Katie Vaughn to inform her of the cash but to no avail." Upon receipt of this email, we further

researched the IP Address on the email header and discovered that all emails from IMPERIAL LOGISTICS have originated from Bucharest, Romania. The address shown on the website is actually in Little Rock, AR. It is a small strip center in a residential area, next to a mobile home park, positively NOT any type of WAREHOUSE STORAGE FACILITY. It also explained the time stamp of 5:38AM which would have been 1:38 PM in Romania. After the email on Monday morning, we made numerous attempts to make telephone contact but only received voicemails. To make it seem further "legitimate" they are using a "local" Little Rock, AR phone # +1 870-232-6906. Additional research using this phone number revealed that a complaint had been submitted to the Better Business Bureau on Dec. 14, 2023 …Scam Tracking Online Purchase:

"We were sent an email from a trusted source who in turn received what we know now was a hoax offer to give away a used but good Yamaha piano. "All we had to do" was pay for the shipping. $1250 dollars for 3 week delivery. Then this week after we had paid that we received suddenly an email from the mover saying they had "found" a large some of cash hidden in the piano. To get the piano released we would have to pay another type of fee which was all nonsensical. It is what made me recognize that this was a scam all along. Dollars Lost: $1250; Little Rock, AR- 72209; Date Reported: December 14, 2023. DFTM's CEO also made direct contact with the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce ([email protected]) on Feb. 20, 2024 and learned that they had previously had complaints about this "company" but before we called had no real data to prove the fact that it was a scam. DFTM NEVER RECEIVED THE PIANO!

The scam was a free piano from a widow, whose husband wanted to give the piano away for free, and all I had to do was pay for the shipping.
