Humana Insurance Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- Plano, TX, USA

I have been researching insurance plans/premiums as I am about to change my current insurance coverage from a group plan to an individual plan. I searched for Humana online and thought I was calling a Humana number. (When I looked back after the phone call I realized the number I called is listed above the official Humana website I thought I was calling. It is listed as "Humana individual health quotes"). I called and spoke with a woman who asked me a few questions before I was transferred to a representative who would then give me a quote. Everything seemed similar to all the other phone calls I've had with other insurance companies with whom I've been calling for quotes. Once I was transferred I spoke with a gentlemen who asked my the type of coverage I was looking for. We spoke for a little while after he gathered some information from me. He then placed me on hold to check for the best plan. He asked me the amount that I could afford to pay before searching for specific plans. (That alone should have been a big red flag for me as with all my other phone calls with companies they do not conduct business this way; they discuss individual plan needs and search for the best available rate). After a lot of back and forth on this, I told him my range was between $300-$500 dollars (per our discussion). After a little while he came back on the line and told me he had a plan with a premium of $500 with a $500 dollar deductible (red flag again). He started explaining that it's a PPO, etc. I asked him what the name of the plan was. He didn't answer and kept talking over me. I asked again and said I needed him to tell me the name of the plan. He said "Multiplan PPO Network". I asked if that was a Humana plan because I called Humana. This went on for a while and I started asking specific questions about the plan. He told me there's an 80/20 coinsurance with this plan. I told him I wanted a plan with a copay. He proceeded to tell me this is better than any copay. The conversation became very suspicious at this point; he proceeded to speak over me every time I asked a question. He didn't want to answer my questions and acted almost condescending like I did not know what I was talking about. I told him I wanted to be transferred to another representative. I ask this multiple times; he did not comply (red flag, again). He at some point after this repeated my address and name to me. He then asked for my routing number. (At this point, I finally realize that this is not at all legitimate). I told him that I would absolutely not give my routing number as I had not agreed to any plan and that he would not answer any of my specific plan questions. He continued to talk over me as if he believed he would convince me otherwise. After more attempts of asking to be transferred, I finally hung up on him. After I hung up, I received two calls from a number in Florida. I didn't answer and the person didn't leave a message. I decided to call the number back after thinking about how suspicious all of this was and it went to a recording from the "Direct Benefits Group". It stated if you knew your parties' extension to dial it now and if not to press another number to leave a message. (Another red flag as that had nothing to do with the Humana number I thought I was calling. I'm convinced this was a follow up from the one "company" to obtain more information from me as the calls occurred within minutes after hanging up on the man, and came from Florida which was very random). After I called that number and heard the recording and hung up, the number called me back, again. I answered but remained silent to listen to what would happen. There was a lot of background noise (red flag- legitimate business calls do not have background noise). I said nothing and waited. I heard a man who sounded young, kind of goofing off...making comments that didn't make much sense, almost as if he didn't realize anyone had actually picked up the phone. After maybe 20 seconds or so he hung up. I then blocked the number. This was number in Boca Raton, FL. Later on in the evening I received a phone call from a number in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I didn't answer and later called it back. It said it was a non working number. I am not sure if this was connected to the other call but it was very suspicious that it was another Florida number.

I have been calling so many insurance companies lately that, unfortunately, I spoke to this man for far too long. Had I not been so mentally exhausted I know I would have caught on earlier. I was very worried about the information I did give- birth date, name, address. I spoke with my father, who is an attorney, who recommended reporting it to the BBB, etc, in case other people have encountered a similar situation with this "company" who is extremely suspicious and most likely illegitimate. When I called the BBB in Dallas (I live in Plano), I spoke with Diana who suggested I file this report. She didn't see any other filed complaints on either of the phone numbers when I gave them to her. I did follow up with the website listed underneath the number online and it is fake.
