Hubstaff Impostor Reports & Reviews (31)

• Jul 11, 2023

I saw a post for a remote data entry position on the Amarillo Buy Sell Trade group on Facebook. It was posted by Marie Marlette. When I inquired about the job, I was given a code and was told that I needed to download Telegram and provide the code to a man named Christopher Lee Wilson. When he told me that the entire interview and drove briefing was to be done over Telegram Chat, I got suspicious. So, I googled Hubstaff scam and found a report on this site in which the post and conversations were identical to mine. Below is a screenshot of the post. Don’t fall for these [censored]’ bull[censored]!

A woman posted the job ad in a local Facebook group. I was instructed to download the telegram app and give an interview code to the HR contact. See all my screenshots below. It is a scam where they wanted my credit card information. When I refused they asked me to buy a $500 Apple giftcard and give them the numbers and receipt. They said they would reimburse me on my first paycheck.

Horrible. I thought I was getting a job. Gave them access to my accounts. They paid my credit cards off. Then ask me to buy a apple card. That made me suspicious so I started checking found out it was scam. I told them I wasn't taking job. Stopped 2 of the payments. Then they deposited money into checking account. I ask why and how. Given lots of excuses. The lady even tried to convince me not by sending me her information. ( sure it was fake).
When I told her I had to go bank and let them take care of returning money put in checking account. She said no that I needed to Zella them the money. While I was going to bank they started threatening me. Even sent a goggle picture of my home. I was just trying to get a job. I have reported everywhere I know. Don't let this happen to you.

Exact same thing happened to me. I just did not let them get as far. They said I needed a Mac Book pro instead of an HP laptop. I also needed a new Iphone 14pro. Evidently my 13 pro was not adequate. When all else failed and I would not give them my credit card number they asked me to buy a $500 apple gift card and send the receipt and they claimed they would pay me back on my first paycheck.

Take person info and never calls back

Many thanks to this page.
A friend of mine sent me a similar post on FB from someone named "Ariel Faith Mccorvey" that Hubstaff is hiring, and also asked for a message if interested, so I messaged here, and she sent me a telegram link for hte interview NOW ... that was surprising for me actually, and when the call started, it was all good news and wonderful offer.
That made me a bit doubtful, so I searched online and I found this page.
Now the guy is asking me on telegram if I am still connected. :-)
Not sure what else can we do to report them.

I initially saw a post in the Ohio “Buy and Trade” group or something on Facebook with a post offering an entry level work from home data entry job starting at $20/hr for Ohio Medicaid that only required 1 hour of HIPAA training. I’ve attached a picture of the profile who posted it. They ask you to pm them for more info so I did. They ask you to then download a messaging app called Telegram for an “interview”. Over Telegram the questions seemed normal until I noticed that the grammar was incorrect and unprofessional, the “ID” of the hiring manager looked fake, they asked for my SSN, AND then proceeded to ask for the username and password to my bank account! Their reason was “to ensure the funds sent to me for work equipment was used correctly.” Then sent an obvious fake screenshot of an “employee’s account” that they had sent funds to. During this pandemic when people are desperate to make ends meet without exposing themselves to new strands of Covid this is an incredibly dangerous scam. I’m 23 and quite internet savvy of course and it even had me almost fooled. So I wanted to warn those who aren’t or who are much older to beware of fake FB profiles and staffing agencies/job offers like this.

A lady on Facebook (Kerri Jacobs) made an employment from home post. I was later instructed to install Signal messenger and enter the interview code she provided. I later connected with Christopher Lee Wolfe (765) 997-8854. He asked normal interview questions aside from the fact he asked for my phone carrier company and if my phone was prepaid or not. He then later ended the interview saying i passed with a 96% and instructed to send over my complete information (full name, address, email, phone) which i didn't. I told him my concerns for providing personal info and not having any reliable legitimacy of his company. To where he send me a pic of his Hubstaff badge. I told him the physical address?11650 Olio Rd suite 1000-193, Fishers, IN 4603 had nothing to do with Hubstaff which I haven't heard from him ?

Same as the rest all the way to Christopher Lee. After installing crypto and truist backing 5, I stopped when they requested my email password, telling them no one
Needs to get into my emails for anything.

Same as the others. He was even Christopher Lee, with a different last name. Wilson

Same story. Saw a post online from someone saying Hubstaff was hiring for stay at home data entry. Great pay lots of benefits. Did an interview. They asked lots of "interview" questions. You get hired! Then they have to set you up with equipment. They buy it as needed from a specific vendor. Oh no they don't order it. You order it. They send a long list of things you need (equipment). They also asked about my phone service if is pre or post paid. In the end they r gonna send you money! You have to use it when you order your equipment. They just need an id after that they need your credit card or bank account info. I started out googling the company (while in the interview process). Yay! The company is real! As I go through the interview process I start to notice little things, mistakes in wording, not many but a few. Like you r texting with someone from another country. Then, I got smarter and started doing searches for hubstaff hiring process, then hubstaff hiring scam. These people!

I believe there are individuals posing as Hubstaff or that the company is not legitimate. They post saying they are looking to help fill different positions. They have you go through what seems like a normal interview and test process. They promise all kinds of benefits then start asking for normal information that is required to be hired. It is when they try and get your banking and credit card login information that huge red flags go up. I have contacted their website twice today 8/18/2021 and have not received a reply as of this reporting. No company should or would require your personal banking login information if they are legitimate. As I stated above I do not know if these are imposters or if the company is responsible for the scam.

Did anything happen? I fell for the same thing.

I came across an add on Facebook for a stay at home job paying a good amount of money. The “recruiter” messaged me threw Facebook and asked me basic employment questions then directed me to download an app in which I would be interviewed and continue the hiring process if I was eligible. The man interviewing me over text asked me serious employment question to make it seem real after I was “approved” to continue in the hiring process he asked for any form of ID I sent my State ID and then I was asked for a picture of my social security card. I told him I was not comfortable sending my SSN and he sent me a picture of his “Hub staff” badge with his name and photo and assured me that the company policy would keep my identification safe,it seemed real so I sent my SSN. He then said I would receive a code. As we went on his grammar over text got worse and the sentences got confusing. I told him I was no longer interested in continuing the job opportunity after reading other people had been scammed by the same company. He tried to get me to continue and make me believe it was safe

Did anything happen, was anything stolen from you? That happened to me also.

Christopher Lee W., hiring manager of Hubstaff interviews you and tells you a data entry job. He then lets an executive board review your answers and hires you on the spot. He asks you for a picture ID and a W4 before he can begin. Crazy of me I know!! He tells you details about the job. I hesitated about the paperwork and spoke of scams, and he emailed a picture ID from the company stating I didn't have anything to worry. We continued talking about the job. He stated we couldn't go on without the W4. I relented and sent it in. Then he ask if I could be a "Facebook recruiter". It all came together then. The contact was given to me by a lady on Facebook said she worked for Hubstaff. She said it was legit but when questioned more in depth, she didn't have a lot of answers but kept saying it's legit. I then said I wouldn't be a "recruiter" and I was done "playing." The reply was "okay."

Another woman who had replied on FB said Hubstaff had taken her SS#, Bank acct#, and had stolen her identity as well as ask her for money!! I have filed a fraud alert and contacted my bank. Keeping my fingers crossed. If it sounds to good to be true, it is!!

they asked for my id same person me being dumb i sent it they ask for my bank name i gave it to them but not my account number can they still get into my stuff

Did anything happen?

Did they end up stealing your identity? I fell for the same thing and now I'm worried. I have my credit frozen.

Data entry remote position. Seen on Facebook and convo went to Skype. Then it got sketchy day 2 when the identification verification occurred via the California EDD. Unemployment benefits and I’m hired on to be data entry clerk. Didn’t know you could possibly be both ha. Yeah right I didn’t buy that so please investigate this and shut it down before anybody else becomes victims

I have proof of the checks 1400 dollar check sent that wouldn’t go through and also the 7000 dollar check that came back and i have names of who they tried to get me to cashapp money to and i also have a picture of who said he was the hiring manager for hubstaff. I also have pictures of the checks that were sent and some of the cashapp people they had me try to send money to

I sent my personal information under the impression that I was hired working from home

Have you had any issues of identity theft? I fell for the same thing.

While looking for employment, I saw an ad on Facebook that mentioned $20 an hour, flexible hours, part or full time working from home, good benefits. Looked into it, sent a message to the person who posted it (the original post had comments blocked). They replied back within 24 hours. Went through a relatively quick and painless online interview (on What'sApp).

Things got a little weird there.

The company is supposed to be based out of WA, but their phone number registers in New Jersey, and the physical address is in Indiana... at a barber shop.

The English and punctuation got worse, and after being 'hired', an email was sent to me asking for, and here's a copy/paste:

ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT

10:36 AM (35 minutes ago)

to me

All details for funding would be met and provided by you these details include

Account name:

Account number:

Routing number:

Username:

Password:

Which is only to be used for tracking of the company funds in your account alone.

WHY ONLINE ACCESS

it's due to our past experience from various kinds of people. most people get the money in their bank account but later turn back to say they didn't. The online access consisting of your :

Username

Password

is needed to monitor the funds going into your account. After you get the money then you are free to change your password.

Sorry for the inconvenience it might bring but we have to secure our money and company

In my experience, anyone asking for your account number is trying to rip you off. The bad punctuation, spelling, and lack of grammar are all separate red flags (and there's a lot in there) for scammers.

I protested, said I would not be willing to give that information up (not even for a 'direct deposit paycheck') online. They offered to send me a check for $4500 to cover 'necessary equipment and softwares' for work, but the check would come in PDF form that I was to use for 'mobile deposit'.

I was then instructed to do this (again a copy/paste):

Once the funds is available in your account you will be purchasing ONE VANILLA Prepaid cards. The company’s vendor accept The cards as a means of payment for the working materials.

All the equipments and softwares will get to you in one piece via FedEx (next day delivery).

I believe you will be home to receive them?

I also happen to be aware that pre-paid cards are a prime method for money laundering, scams, and theft. Bit suspicious. I was then told to expect the PDF in my email, and was asked to print it out ASAP, then deposit it via mobile deposit ASAP. I will do that... in a separate account, after notifying my bank.

An example of the 'pdf check' should be below:

The email with the 'pdf':

How to make the deposit:

1. Print out Both the front and back of the check in colored form on a regular paper. Endorse the back of the check with your Signature.

2. Login to your Bank's Mobile Application.

3. Click on ''Deposit Check''

4. Take a picture of the front and back of the check making sure all edges of the check appears on the picture.

5. Submit.

You will receive a confirmation email or a verification code of deposit.

NOTE: You are to have me notified immediately the deposit has been completed.

Please do take a snapshot / screenshot of the Deposit Receipt also Blur any of your personal information written on it and forward it back to me for the Chief Accounting Officer to be notify and have the funds posted into your account once deposited.

The PDFs of the check should be included.
